What the sequence shows
The number that makes the match unusual is not the final score but the start of it. Swiatek led 5-0 in the first set. Zheng won that set 7-5 — seven games in a row — and saved three set points on the way. Reuters notes this was the second time in the same tournament that Zheng recovered from 0-5: she did the same in the deciding set of her third-round match.
Two more facts belong on the record. Swiatek took a medical timeout after the third game of the second set, with a physio treating her left thigh; Reuters reports she did not appear to struggle on return. And the head-to-head before this match stood at 7-1 in Swiatek's favour. One result does not reverse that; it does add a second Zheng win, after her Olympic semi-final victory over Swiatek two years earlier.
What the players said
Zheng, on the slow start: "I start the match really slow. That's why she's able to lead 5-0. After that, I start to play more freely." She also said she lost track of the score at one point "because I'm so focused to playing every single point".
Swiatek, on the loss: "If I would be more solid than her, I would win this game, but I wasn't solid and I was missing too much."

Context that is on record
Zheng's 2025 season was interrupted by surgery on a chronic right elbow injury, which is why the Olympic champion entered this tournament through qualifying. Her next opponent is the second seed, Elena Rybakina (Kazakhstan), who beat Naomi Osaka in her own fourth-round match on the same day.
What this entry does not claim
It does not say who will win the quarter-final. It does not say whether Swiatek's thigh affected the result — Reuters reports the timeout and reports that she did not appear to struggle; both are on record, and we leave them side by side.
