Why Bitcoin is more than a simple currency

Bitcoin's story began in the shadow of the 2008 financial crisis, when the pseudonymous Satoshi Nakamoto published a nine-page white paper proposing a means of payment that no single bank or government could freeze, inflate or confiscate. What sets Bitcoin apart is not that it moves money (many systems can do that) but that its supply is permanently capped at 21 million coins, enforced by code rather than by the promise of a central authority. Understanding that difference, store of value versus everyday means of payment, is the starting point for every later chapter of the Academy.
